it's really a sad thing. Kurt's been gone for 11 years. i loved his music so much, i listened to it every day. i've read countless interviews and books on him and Nirvana. i know so much about him, i feel like i knew him personally. i identified with the music and his ethos so closely that it literally changed my life. as for layne, i feel he was somewhat disregarded in his passing. as mentioned above, he died at a time when that style of rock had long faded from popularity. how i long for that era of rock. this saddens me further. layne died almost 10 years after AIC's last album. i'm sure more great albums would have graced the charts, had they kept going. But i don't know what was really going on with either of these two guys behind the scenes. i just know that it really sucks that these two great musicians are gone forever, and their music will live on within me. R.I.P. Layne and Kurt

Great article, but I'm suprised you didn't wait until tomorrow to post it. Still the timely focus on two of Seattle's 'recent' tragic losses - and we have our share- is always good to bring to mind. Kurt and Layne's demise urges more questions than answers ... but if it helps anyone escape the hell of addiction or rail against the robbery of human potential, then that is a better legacy to leave. That and some great music.

To anyone who feels caught in the same trap that Layne and Kurt experienced, remember that, tho' you may not be famous, your loss will surely crush someone beneath unspeakable grief. There is hope. And great music to enjoy in life. Remember that.

Thanks for writing what you did. You really said it all. I love Alice In Chains so much, and when I heard that Layne died on April 20th I think, my heart broke. I felt so sorry for him, Laynes family, the Band, and anyone who knew him. I held a vigil for him at the firepit on the campus of my christian boarding school in Santa Cruz, Ca. I was only a Junior in high school. Today, on the 4 year anniversary of his death, I wish him peace and I pray for his soul, that it may end up in heaven or a better place. We can all learn from the decisions that Layne and Kurt made. Both were involved heavily in substance, and it just shows if you play around enough, eventually you will lose. Ive had my fun with drugs, but drug free is the way to be. RIP LAYNE. I love and miss you.

( We pay our debt sometime) well said

Mike
